Description
The Bobsy-Porsche SR-3 was first introduced July 25, 1964 in "Competition Press", now Autoweek, magazine. This car is one of 3 or 4 designed and built for the Porsche engine, in Medina Ohio by Jerry Mong, of Vanguard Motors. Two cars were initially built for the four cam Porsche 356 Carrera engine. Subsequently, one or two additional cars, with the wide engine bay for the Porsche engine, were built and sold. This Bobsy-Porsche is believed to be one of those. The ownership history only goes back to 1967, and has conflicting dates and owners. The car reportedly was used as an SCCA club racer and autocross car throughout the years, and sat for years in storage until I purchased it in 1995. I totally restored the car over a two year period, and have been Vintage racing it since 1998. It is the only complete Bobsy-Porsche SR-3 in existence.
